DONATIONS have started trickling in as preparations gather momentum ahead of Talent Masuku’s burial on Monday.
The latest support comes through the efforts of Bulawayo Ward 9 Councillor Donaldson Mabutho and businesswoman Mrs Sipho Mazibuko who have been rallying assistance for the grieving family since hearing of Talent’s passing.
Food has already been donated, with further contributions anticipated in the coming days. Mrs Mazibuko stated that support continues to come from various sectors of the community.
“We have managed to secure food for the funeral and are still engaging more people willing to help. I have also approached market vendors, who have indicated they will donate vegetables on the day of the burial to assist the family during this difficult time,” she said.
She remarked that the community’s response has been heartening, reflecting how people connected with Talent.
She also shared a personal memory of Talent, revealing that he had previously worked at one of her shops.
“Talent worked for me at my shop and he was someone who always brought energy wherever he was. He had his challenges, but he was a good person at heart. I knew him beyond what people saw on the streets. When I heard about his passing, I felt compelled to stand with his family and ensure he receives a dignified send-off,” Mazibuko stated.
Councillor Mabutho said the support shown by the community demonstrates the profound love the people of Bulawayo had for Talent.
The donations come just days after Mrs Mazibuko, through Mental Voices Trust represented by Mr Munyaradzi Innocent Kavayi, pledged to cover all funeral expenses, including the coffin, food, transport and other burial-related costs.
Talent died on 28 May at Mpilo Central Hospital after being admitted while in police custody. He is scheduled to be buried on (tomorrow) Monday.
Talent was known for his presence on the streets of Bulawayo where he would enjoy scaring people especially women. He was a comical character who was loved and appreciated by the greater part of the people of Bulawayo. He was arrested and died after being taken to hospital while in custody.
