Tambwara helps Churchill dispatch Peterhouse

A try and four conversions from man-of-the-match Lenience Tambwara ensured that Churchill returned to their winning ways after having lost to Prince Edward in their previous encounter.
Left-wing Takudzwa Kumadiro, second centre Kudzai Mazhawi and centre Tinashe Toriro also put their names on the scoresheet with a try each in Churchill’s match against Peterhouse.
The match attracted a good crowd and Churchill’s strength was in their forwards, who managed to win a lot of turnovers at the breakdown.
On the other hand, Peterhouse’s backline was characterised by handling errors which cost them the match.
Tambwara’s try was the pick of the action as he showed some brilliant individual skill, capitalising on a Peterhouse fumble from the halfway line.
He burst his way through the Peterhouse defence for the tryline.
Churchill’s deputy sports director, Paul Kaunda, had a lot of praise for the Bulldogs.
“The boys responded well from last week’s defeat to Prince Edward and I think physically we were okay and our pace was awesome.
“We were disciplined and the boys showed a good fighting spirit which I think won us the game,” said Kaunda.
Meanwhile, St. George’s got the better of Prince Edward when they won 17-12 in a game of two halves at the weekend.
St. George’s went to the half-time break leading 17-0 and PE came back to score 12 points in second half and should have won if they converted all their kicks for posts. Prince Edward and St George’s came into the match with their heads high, as there were the only teams yet to taste a defeat in the league. Two tries from Tapiwa Tsomondo and a penalty from Luke Masasire were not enough to save the Tigers from their first defeat of the season.
