CHAPUNGU Queens Goal Shooter Lisa Tanyanyiwa says she is now more focused after bagging a huge award in the recent Botswana Defence Forces’ Find The Ball tournament in Gaborone, Botswana.

The Air Force of Zimbabwe team represented the country in this prestigious tournament where they won silver following their 36-43 loss in the final to Jwaneng Queens of Botswana.

But they did stretch their opponents to the limits with their intelligent play and Tanyanyiwa was deservedly honoured as the Best Shooter of the tournament after tormenting defenders throughout the three-day event.

Still relatively new at Chapungu Queens having joined them four months ago from Greenfuel, Tanyanyiwa feels this is the start of a new chapter in her career as she bids to aid the club attain their target.

“Obviously winning such individual prizes always inspires and spurs one to be more confident going forward.

“For me, getting that accolade was both an honour and a blessing.

“My teammates played the biggest role to help me achieve that feat. I am certainly confident that the prize has seeded in me that winner mentality,” she said.

“Going forward, all I wanna do is improve myself and become the best that I can be.

“That doesn’t mean it should be about myself, no. We play and win as a team. But every individual that makes up the team should have that inner drive to want to do more, that desire and that zeal to conquer.

“The Botswana tournament was certainly an eye-opener for us as a team. We picked lessons in every game that we played, all the games, those that we won and those that we lost, we still got to learn.

“That is the importance of tournaments like these.”

The Premier Netball League is set to resume next week after a three-week break.

Tanyanyiwa said: “Yes, I think we will be stronger in the second half of the season because we have tried to correct some of the mistakes we have been making in the first phase.

“Hopefully we will be able to do very well especially with the addition of more players in the team this mid-season break.

“I have no doubt about our team’s capabilities and with some experience gained from last weekend’s tournament in Botswana, I think we will be on fire.”

Chapungu Queens are third on the log behind leaders ZDF Queens and Harare City.

They are four points off the pacesetters and two behind Harare City.
