Tanzania has invited Zimbabwe’s younger generation to visit the East African country accompanied by war veterans to fully appreciate the sacrifices made during the liberation struggle.

Speaking after paying a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Dr Frederick Shava last week, Tanzanian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Professor Emmanuel Mbennah said the younger generation should to visit important sites to understand the sacrifices as well as strong relations existing between the two republics.

“We talked about the possibility of helping young people understand the history that is between Zimbabwe and Tanzania, especially the sacrifices that the people of Zimbabwe made and the support that Tanzania provided,” said Ambassador Mbennah.

“We hope someday it will be possible for young people from Zimbabwe, maybe guided by war veterans, to go to Tanzania to visit the places where the people who were in the liberation struggle stayed.

“There are places called Mgagao, Morogoro, Nachingwea and Pakamoyo. They will have an understanding of the kind of life people who fought for independence in this country lived and the places they lived and even the communities that interacted with them.”

Ambassador Mbennah talked of the importance of expanding trade between the two countries.

“We talked about how we can expand trade and commerce between the two countries and there are prospects of Zimbabwe sending a trade mission to Tanzania in the near future,” he said.

Ambassador Mbennah informed Minister Shava about the forthcoming commemoration of Tanzania’s 60th anniversary of independence on December 9, adding that the embassy would organise a symposium at the University of Zimbabwe.

Minister Shava expressed appreciation at the excellent relations between Zimbabwe and Tanzania dating back to the time of the liberation struggle.

He expressed his desire to see the further enhancement of bilateral cooperation between the two countries through increased trade and investment.

Minister Shava indicated Zimbabwe’s intention to organise a trade mission to Tanzania in the near future following the dispatch of similar missions to Malawi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
