Tanzanian President Magufuli dies

DAR ES SALAAM. — Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli died yesterday while receiving treatment in Dar Es Salaam, the country’s Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan announced. He was aged 61.

In a televised address last night, Hassan said President Magufuli had died of heart complications. She said President Magufuli was hospitalised on March 6 at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute.

Hassan also announced that the country would get into a 14-day period of mourning as arrangements for the burial are made and during this period, all flags in Tanzania will fly at half-mast. — Agencies.
