WOMEN have been challenged to tap into the lucrative liquid petroleum gas industry as it has immense potential, especially now when the country is facing electricity supply challenges.
The call was made by the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) at a workshop in Mutare to educate people on the safe use of gas.
ZERA regional compliance officer Mr Musa Nerwande said there should be equality between men and women in the LPG industry.
“There should be equal participation between men and women in the LPG industry since women are the ones who mostly use gas when cooking. But as we speak, there are only four women at this training workshop to show how much women are not active in issues to do with the industry. Not only men should venture into LPG, but everyone,” he said.
He said there was need to bring diversity into the energy sector to ensure the country has a sustainable back-up solution for electricity challenges.
“We also want to bring diversity in energy options, hence we do trainings each time, but small numbers attend these trainings because of ignorance and lack of knowledge.”
