HE is called Tarzan by his teammates and Dynamos forward Anesu Gondo has thrust himself into the spotlight after his impressive double act downed Harare City at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.Gondo, signed from Tripple B, became the first striker at Dynamos to get a league goal this season.
“Naturally, I feel happy because these are my first goals for Dynamos. So it’s exciting to score,” said Gondo.
Gondo has previously played for Extension Gunners in Botswana and featured for Tripple B before making the biggest move in his career.
“After I got the opening goal, I saw that there was need to work hard and get another goal,” said Gondo. “We win matches by scoring more goals and I had a feeling that I was going to score again. That early goal gave us confidence to push for more goals.
“I am happy to be at Dynamos now and I should use every chance to retain my position in the team.”
Pasuwa was also happy that Gondo got in the groove during the Premiership match against Harare City.
“He is one of those strikers who are registered for the PSL, we gave him a chance and he proved himself,” said Pasuwa.
“We had Anesu playing as an outright striker and we also had one striker (Pakamisa) who was dropping to pick up the ball. We wanted combination play, hence we had two defensive linkmen.
“We did not have a depleted squad as some people might feel. We have 35 players and if you are registered to play then you should prove your worth and I am glad that they have done that.”
The defeat for Harare City was their fourth in as many games, and Bigboy Mawiwi and David George should be feeling the heat now.
“It’s same old story. It’s never good when coming from behind. Yesterday (Saturday) we were talking about it and now we conceded a silly goal, from a set-piece.
“I have been talking to the defenders that Dynamos are dangerous with long balls and they are very aggressive with counter-attacks.
“You need to concentrate but the defenders let us down especially the last 15 minutes. We collapsed when we conceded that second goal. It was a football blunder; we should have played that ball. We have to regroup and work on those silly mistakes again,” said Mawiwi.
Speculation on social media on Sunday had suggested that Mawiwi had been booted but a source at Harare City said the coach was still safe for now.
“We have only heard on Facebook that he had been fired but he is there and neither was any crisis meeting held after the defeat.
“It’s a phase which could pass soon,” said the source.
