Talented gospel musician Tatenda Mahachi is making inroads into the South African market and staged an outstanding performance in Durban on December 31.
Mahachi performed at GAS 2015 Gospel All Stars concert, an annual event for SA’s top gospel musicians.
Tatenda Mahachi was the only international artiste invited to share the stage with well-known musicians like Sfiso Ncwane, Lundi Tymara, Rebbeca Malope, Buhle Nhlangulela Dumi Mkokstad and Thina Zungu.
The event to which tickets were sold out three days prior to the show was hosted by Ncwane Communications.
The gig was scheduled for 6pm and by 5.30pm more than 20 000 people were in attendance already.
It was the second time for Mahachi to perform in Durban after another good show held on June 27 in Mandeni.
The peak of the show was the New Year countdown sect when Ncwane was on stage.
The “Kulungile” hit-maker sent people to their dancing paces as they bade farewell to 2015.
His other songs “Alleluya” and “Ngiyabonga” brought a worshipping spirit to the event.
After Ncwane’s performance Lundi Tyamara got on stage and took people down memory lane with his old popular hits.
Mahachi went on stage around 3am and opened his act with the track “Naye Naye Jesu” that proved popular.
The crowd went wild when Mahachi introduced Ncwane for their collaboration “Ndinoda Jesu”.
Fans also liked it when Mahachi did a song originally performed by Solly Mhlangu.
The songs “Naye Jesu”, “Ndinoda Jesu” and “Makatendeka Jesu” made the day for Mahachi.
Mahachi left fans screaming for more when he ended his slot, but it was time for Dumi Mkhostad to close the show, putting icing on the cake around 5am.
Speaking after the show Mahachi said the response was a surprise.
“I’m so excited about this. I thank God for the response I got here. It is great that people around are loving and appreciating my music,” he said.
“I never thought they would love Shona songs this much and it’s only God who made it possible. I am also excited to announce that by public demand lam back in South Africa in April for another gig.”
