FOR someone who never got enough credit with the way he was leading Arenel in the Premiership two years ago, Farai Tawachera is just proving that quality can thrive with better resources.
Tawachera was the Arenel coach when the Bulawayo team was promoted into the top-flight in 2024.
Despite an acute lack of motivation on the part of players who were rarely paid, Tawachera’s brand of football was always there for everyone to see.
Players like Grey Kufandada, Arthur Ndlovu and goalkeeper Arron Ngwenya were outstanding.
Tawachera was then co-opted into the CAPS United technical staff led by Lloyd Chitembwe but a poor return would not make his stay longer at the Green Machine.
But the gaffer has found his range again in the Northern Region Soccer League where he is the head coach of Ngezi Stars Under-19.
He also, as per Ngezi Platinum Stars policy, doubles as the Ngezi Platinum second assistant, in the Premier Soccer League.
And he is floating well in both worlds with Ngezi Stars U19 just a single point off leaders Harare City after 13 games.
The Premiership side, led by Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, are also flying well and are within spitting distance of leaders Hardrock after 16 matches.
It is a space that Tawachera is enjoying, not least, after he was named the NRSL Coach of the Month for May.
“I am extremely thrilled for bagging this award (the NRSL) May Coach of the Month,” said Tawachera.
“You know when you are doing your job, you have your own targets and team targets. And to be rewarded in such a manner is something that I will call out of this world.
“That’s how I can describe the feeling. You know I have been very unfortunate over the last two, three seasons but I have been patient and I would like to thank everyone who has been helping in my growth as a coach.
“In the PSL we are also doing well there and we have been telling each other to remain eyes on the ball.”
