FORMER Africa Revenge member, Mehluli ‘Taz’ Moyo, who broke his long music sabbatical last year by bouncing back with a smashing single Idolo Phansi, says he is ready with yet another promising hit. The talented vocalist made a comeback to the music scene after Africa Revenge’s break up in 2007.
His debut single, Idolo Phansi, was released last July. It is a chartbuster that caused ripples on the local airwaves and was on the number one spot for several weeks on local stations.
In an interview yesterday, the Harare-based Taz said he was back in the music industry full-time.
“I will be dropping yet another single titled Sadza probably in two weeks times as I am still working on the dates of the launch. The track talks about a man who works away from his family and complements his wife on the good sadza he has prepared for him,” said Taz.
Moyo says he has no particular name for his music as it is a fusion of different music genres.
“Fans can expect a full album during the winter season most probably at the end of June; the album will also feature the hit track Idolo Phansi and Sadza among other tracks that I have composed,” he said.
He said the single would be launched concurrently with the video.
“Idolo Phansi was a gospel track with a house feel. It was a track of thanksgiving to the Lord and I was impressed with the way it was received on the market and the video got rave reviews on You Tube,” he said.
Moyo, who works with an eight member band by the name Technicallo, said he had no immediate plans of relocating to Bulawayo.
“I cannot move to Bulawayo anytime soon because I am working here in Harare but am looking forward to performing there this year,” said Taz.
He urged music lovers to keep supporting local artistes as their quality of music is improving by the day.
“Local fans must keep supporting us as we are heading for a good time ahead as evidenced by the quality of music the artistes are producing,” said Taz.
Moyo rose to stardom as one of the founding members of Africa Revenge, a ground-breaking afro-fusion group that became a household name during the turn of the millennium.
Afrika Revenge entered the Zimbabwean music scene in 1998 when they released their debut album Afrika Revenge Presents Qaya Musik.
One of its popular tracks was Wanga, Anochengeta, Maweni, a hit that became a sing along and cut across all ages. However, Moyo broke up with Willis Wattaffi soon after.
After the fallout of the magnificent duo, the group collapsed and Wattaffi embarked on a solo project and has two albums to his name.
The group won Song of the Year for Wanga, Best Male Artiste, Best Jazz Album, and Best Newcomer at the Zimbabwe Music Awards in 2004 and the Outstanding Album Award for their debut album Afrika Revenge Presents Qaya Musik at the National Arts Merit Awards in 2005.
Tazz quit the music business and has been busy recording other artistes.
The duo, Wattaffi and Taz, have both quashed any chance of a re-union.
