A TEACHER at a local primary school, who caressed and kissed a pupil, exposed his manhood to another pupil and then showed pornographic material to another kid, will spend the next TWELVE months in jail.
All the kids were in his Grade Five class.
Victor Zivira, 47, was found guilty of three counts of indecent assault.
He was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment for indecently assaulting the three female pupils.However, 12 months were suspended for five years on condition he doesn’t commit a similar crime.
Prosecutors proved that last month, Zivira abused his position of authority to target the three Grade 5 students, aged between 10 and 11 years .
In the first case, Zivira ordered a 10-year- old pupil to deliver books to his house where he proceeded to caress and kiss her.
The court heard that, at an unknown date at the school, Zivira untucked the shirt of a 11- year- old pupil in the classroom and caressed her back while making lewd remarks before exposing his manhood.
On the third count, the court proved that Zivira showed pornographic material from his cellphone to yet another 11-year-old student, during lesson time.
The matter came to light after the victims reported the harrowing experiences, leading to Zivira’s arrest and prosecution.
Zivira will spend an effective 12 months behind bars.
And such lurid acts to children deserve just 12 months jail term? Zimbabwe, where is our justice system taking us to? Do these magistrates and judges have children of their own? Do they have any idea the kind of damage that such acts do to children? Where are you children’s activists? Where are you parliamentarians? Are these magistrates following the law? Such abuse of children deserve a longer sentence than that given to someone who violates ZESA equipment.
