PATRICIA Yusufu, a teacher at a Harare primary school, has been granted a protection order at the Harare Civil court following an ugly incident where her personal belongings were dumped in her classroom.
In her application, Patricia detailed her traumatic experience at the hands of her ex-husband Charles Mike.
The presiding magistrate granted the protection order in Patricia’s favour as Charles did not attend the court hearing.
However, the businessman has since filed an application to contest the default judgment.
In her application, Patricia said:
“I was once customarily married to the respondent, Charles Mike.
“Our customary union ended on April 2, 2025, when he forcibly removed me from our home after I refused to relinquish my personal vehicle, which he intended to sell unlawfully for his own gain.
“The customary rites to formally dissolve our marriage were completed nearly a year ago.”
On the day of the incident, Patricia was teaching when Charles and his colleagues invaded her classroom. They were carrying three large sacks, which were filled with her clothes.
“They began shouting vile accusations at me, labelling me a prostitute and claiming I had a boyfriend,” she said.
“These allegations are entirely false and it’s shocking to hear them from a former husband from whom I’ve been separated.”
Charles and her colleagues emptied the sacks onto the classroom floor, scattering her clothes in front of her students, colleagues and some parents who were present at the school.
“This degrading act left me traumatised, distressed and seriously defamed,” said Patricia in her application.
She said this was not an isolated incident.
“In November 2025, he tracked me to my church, the Apostolic Faith Mission of Zimbabwe (Milton Park Assembly), during service and threatened me with a gun.
“I had to flee in fear and attempt to report him to the Milton Park Police, but they refused to open a case.”
Patricia’s marriage to Charles ended last year under strained circumstances.
She was convicted for the theft of US$5,200 from her ex-husband. She served 170 hours of community service at a local hospital and repaid the amount.
