Team Byo goes into camp

TEAM Bulawayo’s preparations for the annual Zimbabwe National Youth Games that are scheduled to kick off in Mutare over the weekend are on course with the team going into camp today. The team has already identified suitable training facilities for all sporting disciplines and each will hold morning and afternoon training sessions until they finalise their respective squads before they depart for the host province on Friday.

The basketball team will be having their training sessions at Eveline High School, football will be held at Barbourfields field A, volleyball at Raylton Sports Club while Masotsha High School will play host to athletics.

The boxing team is yet to be notified about their training base even though it is the only discipline that has confirmed its team for the Games after they held a tournament to finalise their team.

Team Bulawayo publicity manager Dave Simba said they were working around the clock to ensure that all their preparations progress smoothly without any glitch.

“As a province we’re working tirelessly to make sure that everything goes according to plan. We want our preparations to progress well and that’s the reason why we chose proper training facilities.

“What’s only left for us is to ensure that all the teams are equipped with proper training equipment because we want to instil professionalism going into the games,” he said.

The draw for the Games was conducted in May.

The Games will run from August 15 to 23 and will see teams from the country’s 10 provinces invading the Manicaland capital for the major sporting showcase with Mozambique’s Manica Province making its debut appearance as guest participants.

Participating provinces will partake in a cultural and heritage exchange drive where they will showcase the culture of the provinces.

Selected athletes from some provinces will also visit the Chimoio mass grave as a cultural exchange initiative.
