FOUR social football teams will hold a memorial tournament at Bango Grounds in Mpopoma tomorrow in honour of former Njube Sundowns player Mephias Webb who collapsed and died at the same venue last year.

According to soccer legend Douglas ‘British’ Mloyi the four teams that will battle it out tomorrow are BCC, Zobha from Sizinda, Makokoba Tigers and Mthala, for whom Webb played.

“The mini tournament is meant to remember one of us who died in front of our eyes during a social match last year. That tragic event is still very fresh in our memories. If all goes well we intend having it on an annual basis,” said Mloyi who also plays for Mthala.

Webb, then one of the assistant coaches at Bulawayo City who were in the Southern Region Division One League, died on June 21 last year during a social match. He was buried at Lady Stanely Cemetery.

Post mortem results revealed that he died as a result of lung failure.

The former Njube Sundowns, Masvingo United and Highlanders player left behind wife Sichelesile, a daughter Melisa and son Mephias Junior.
