FOUR traditional chiefs from Shurugwi had a memorable Christmas, thanks to Dr Smelly Dube of Tebekwe Mine, who gifted them with suits, food hampers, and fuel during a festive celebration held in honour of the company’s over 500 employees.
Chiefs Banga, Ndanga, Mapanzure, and Nhema were the special guests at the event, which showcased Tebekwe Mine’s commitment to community engagement and employee appreciation.
The celebration also saw outstanding and long-serving employees being recognised with certificates and monetary rewards.
Chief Mapanzure expressed gratitude to Dr Dube and her husband, Engineer Mncedisi Dube, for their generosity and dedication to uplifting the lives of employees and the broader community.
“This is a welcome development spearheaded by Dr Dube and Engineer Dube. We have received complete suits, not just for ourselves but also for our wives, along with fuel and food hampers,” he said.
He praised the couple for embodying President Mnangagwa’s vision of national progress through community-focused initiatives.
“Tebekwe Mine is doing its best to support its employees and the community. We urge other mining companies to emulate this beautiful gesture. Such efforts contribute to the nation’s prosperity,” said Chief Mapanzure.
The event also highlighted the achievements of Tebekwe Mine employees. Awards were presented to Mr Tedius Mugambiwa for long service, Mr Josiah Munamati — long-service and trusted employee award, Mr Jonah Sibanda was honoured for long service and Mr Isaiah Kapedzi was honoured with the Captain of the Year 2024 Award.
Dr Dube stressed the importance of fostering strong relationships with traditional leaders and the community to ensure Tebekwe Mine’s continued growth and success.
“For Tebekwe Mine to thrive, it is crucial to have the support of traditional leaders and the local community. We are committed to making a positive impact and ensuring that our employees and the people of Shurugwi benefit from our operations,” she said.
Traditional leaders and employees commended Tebekwe Mine for its efforts, calling on other mining companies to adopt similar practices.
