Teen boys drown after heavy rains

TWO teenagers drowned in Mutare and Buhera districts last week. Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, confirmed the two incidents and said the first one happened in Mpudzi Village under Chief Zimunya last Sunday. He urged adults to discourage children from going near dams and flooded rivers after heavy downpours. Inspector Kakohwa said a 13-year-old boy from Mpudzi was coming from school when he tried to use a short-cut home by swimming across Mpudzi Dam and during the process, the boy swam for about five metres and drowned.

In an unrelated incident that happened at Chiurwi Secondary School in Buhera, three teenagers decided to go and swim in Chadzire River after school last Friday, but unfortunately one of them drowned and upon arrival, one of the three boys aged 13 dived into the water and drowned at once. —The Manica Post.
