Teen dies during circumcision

Fourteen year-old Ashley Matsvaire died while undergoing voluntary meal circumcision at Triangle Hospital in Chiredzi on Tuesday. The medical team in attendance said that Ashley who was epileptic was caused by internal secretions which resulted in water being leaked into his lungs. However, the family of the deceased boy is not happy with the explanation. Ashley’s father, Mr Daniel Matsvaire, has since requested an independent pathologist to carry out a post mortem to determine the cause of death. Voluntary male circumcision has been carried out on thousands of men and boys over the past few years. It is believed that circumcision decreases the chances of a male human acquiring and therefore passing on the HIV virus.
