A PARTY that was supposed to be a day of fun allegedly turned into a nightmare for a 16-year-old girl who was sexually attacked at a Vuzu party in Bulawayo’s Nkulumane suburb.

The teenager allegedly became vulnerable after drinking alcohol at the gathering on 3 October, before a friend of her male cousin allegedly took advantage of her condition and sexually attacked her.

The accused cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor.

A source close to the investigations told B-Metro that the girl had attended the party with her male cousin, where alcohol was being served.

“They took alcohol to enjoy themselves and the girl got drunk. After that, her cousin’s friend took advantage of her drunkenness and sexually attacked her,” said the source.

The girl later reported the alleged attack to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and urged members of the public to exercise caution at social gatherings.

“We confirm that a 16-year-old girl was raped at a party. We urge members of the public to be alert at any gathering and not to eat or drink anything they are suspicious of. They must also be wary of being handed food, open drinks or alcohol as that might put them at risk of being taken advantage of,” she said.
