Teen trades iPhone for new hairstyle

Nhlalwenhle Ncube . .
DESPERATION for a new hairstyle led a teenager to steal her friendas brothera?s iPhone andA gave it way for $20.

Faith Sibanda (19) of Pelandaba suburb landed herself in murky waters and was arrested on theft charges.
Sibanda left the court in stitches when she revealed that all she wanted was a new hairstyle and she had no other option but to steal in a bid to get money.

She appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Lungile Ncube and pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court heard that sometime in November, Sibanda visited her friend and upon arriving at her place she found her bathing.

The friendas grandmother allowed her to sit in the house while waiting for her friend.

While Sibanda was in the house, she saw an iPhone which was on the charger and stole it before leaving the place.

She just told the grandmother that she had to rush somewhere and would return later.

A few minutes later, Asamang Selamula, the brother to Sibandaas friend realised that his phone had disappeared.

The first suspect was Sibanda as she was the only person who had been in the house and therefore the matter was reported to the police leading to her arrest.

She revealed that after stealing the phone, she gave it to her private Maths tutor, only identified as Zhou, to sell on her behalf and she was later given $20.

Sibanda pleaded for the magistrateas leniency saying when she committed the offence she was under a spell which made her desperate for a new hairstyle.

The magistrate remanded her in custody for sentencing.
