A 17-year-old Pumula man in Bulawayo went on rampage, stabbing his brother on the arm before trying to smash him with a hammer and also went on to bite him in the eyes following an argument over cooking duties. Thomas Mvula later tried to commit suicide by hanging himself with a jersey but failed soon after discovering he had injured his brother Asania Mvula (19).
According to the siblings’ maternal grandmother Mrs Regina Mthethwa an argument ensued after Asania had asked Thabisa why he was letting him do all the cooking.
“Asania asked Thabisa why he was not cooking and he walked out. Asania then did all the cooking while I was in my bedroom. I was then alerted by noise from the kitchen and I ran to find the two fighting,” said Mrs Mthethwa.
She said she was not sure when Thabisa took the knife and hid it in his clothes.
Mrs Mthethwa said when she stopped the fight she saw her grandson drenched in blood and she realised he had been stabbed.
“Asania was not aware he had been stabbed until I stopped the fight.
“The knife was going to land in his chest looking at the position where his arm was stabbed and I am grateful that I arrived just on time to stop them otherwise he could have been killed,” she said.
After realising he had injured his brother, Thabisa ran outside and tried to commit suicide by hanging himself using a jersey on a vehicle parked inside the yard but was quickly stopped. He then fled from the scene.
“I have not been treated because ugogo has no money so I am just dressing the wound on my own at home,” said Asania.
He was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital where doctors noted that he had a six centimetre deep stab wound that needed to be stitched and he was prescribed some drugs but failed to buy them. Asania said he was scared for his life as he did not know if his younger brother will strike again.
