TEENAGE Hadebe is not the kind of player to be intimidated by the quality of the opposition − that’s what happens when you play in a league where you have to deal with Lionel Messi.
Now, he wants the Warriors to show that same kind of fearlessness at the AFCON finals in Morocco.
He wants to see unity and courage.
The Warriors are scheduled to leave the country today for their Moroccan adventure.
It marks Zimbabwe’s return to Africa’s biggest football stage after missing the last edition following a FIFA ban.
History has not been kind to the Warriors at this tournament.
Each previous appearance ended at the group stage, a barrier that has come to define the challenge facing this generation.
Hadebe, though, insists this team carries the tools to finally push beyond it.
Zimbabwe have been drawn in a demanding group alongside Egypt, Angola and South Africa, a line-up that tests both ambition and nerve.
“I am honoured to represent Zimbabwe on Africa’s biggest stage,” said Hadebe.
“I urge our fans to back us at stadiums or from home, we need the nation’s full support to thrive in Morocco.
“I am confident that the team is eager to go and pumped up ahead of our travelling.”
Rather than shrinking from the calibre of opposition, Hadebe views the group as a chance to grow, both collectively and personally.
“With Egypt, Angola, South Africa ahead, we will play with heart, passion, and dignity for ourselves and the rest of Zimbabweans.
“We are not intimidated as a team and that will give us a ground to breed success.
“Thanks to God for guidance, I pray for protection and wisdom. We will meet challenges, give our best, and uplift the Zimbabwe flag, it’s a sacred duty.”
Hadebe also singled out the return of key leaders as a timely boost for the squad, pointing to the presence of senior figures who bring calm and authority to the camp.
“Captain Nakamba’s humility inspires me. With veterans like Musona, Lunga, Arubi, we will blend experience and youth.
“So, if you look at the squad, there is enough balance and talent that can make things work for the better and for us to attain our targets.”
