Teenage wife bashes husband over phone call

A TEENAGER from Hwange bashed her husband with a cooking stick and iron bar after he received a phone call she suspected was from a girlfriend. Sekai Mwembe, 19, was convicted on her own plea of guilty to physical abuse when she appeared before Hwange magistrate Sharon Rosemani recently.

She was sentenced to two months in prison which was wholly suspended for five years on condition she completes 70 hours of community service at Cinderella Clinic

Her husband, Shadreck Mudimba, is a security guard at Fawcett Security.

Prosecuting, Onias Nyathi said Mwembe was incensed when Mudimba went outside to answer a call.

“On November 27, at 9PM, Mwembe arrived home and found her husband sleeping. After some minutes the complainant’s phone rang. The man woke up and went outside to answer the call,” said the prosecutor.

This, Nyathi said, did not go down well with the Mwembe who requested to know who had phoned.

Mudimba allegedly refused to tell her.

The court heard that Mwembe started slapping her husband and hitting him with a cooking stick and an iron bar all over the body.

“She also bit him on the right side of the abdomen,” the prosecutor said.

Mwembe’s husband, the court heard, escaped and went to make a report to the police.
