A 19-YEAR-OLD woman connived with her friend and three male accomplices to rob a woman they had offered a lift from town to Chitungwiza at knife point.
The two women pleaded guilty to armed robbery when they appeared before magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe, who sentenced them to an effective 12 months each.
Their accomplices are still at large.
Shantel Mavimisa (19) and Zvikomborero Gutsa (20), both from Glen View 7 in Harare, were slapped with 36 months each in prison.
Mr Mahwe set aside 12 months of the term for five years on condition they do not commit a similar offence within that period.
Another year was suspended on condition that they each pay Linile Fletcher US$350 as they robbed her of her valuables worth US$1 500 and only US$800 worth of property was recovered. The pair will spend the remaining 12 months behind bars.
Upon their arrest, the pair was found in possession of a laptop, which they had stolen from Fletcher.
Prosecutor, Miss Sharon Mashavira, told the court that on August 25 at around 7pm, Fletcher was hitch hiking along Julius Nyerere for transport to Chitungwiza.
Shantel, Zvikomborero and their accomplices hatched a plan to rob transport seekers.
They offered Fletcher a lift in their Toyota Sprinter on the pretext they were going to Chitungwiza.
Along the way, one of them drew a knife before demanding Fletcher’s belongings.
The court heard that they took her laptop, a handbag, Samsung Galaxy mobile phone among other valuables, all worth US$1 500.
They later dumped her. She reported to police and investigations led to the arrest of Shantel and Zvikomborero.
