A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy died after he was run over by a bus driven by a 17-year-old boy.
The teenage driver is assisting police with investigations.
Police said the victim, who was playing soccer on the extreme left side of the road, died on the spot.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident which occurred on Monday last week.
“Police in Harare are investigating a fatal road traffic accident in which an AVM DAF bus, with one passenger on board and being driven by a teenager aged 17, hit a boy aged seven who was playing soccer on the extreme left side of Harare Street near Gwinyai Primary School, Mbare, on December 5.
“The victim died on the spot,” he said.
Meanwhile, police in Harare are investigating a hit-and-run road traffic accident where an unknown motorist hit a man along Arcturus Road near Manresa turn-off on Monday. The deceased sustained head injuries and the body was taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for post-mortem.
Anyone with information which may assist in the identification of the victim and arrest of the suspect can report at any nearest police station.
Police in Harare are also investigating a case of infanticide in which the body of a newly born baby boy was found in a state of decomposition at a dump site along Stanstead Road, Mabelreign, on Sunday.
Police are requesting anyone with information to notify their nearest police station.
