Telecel partners Mukuru.com

Telecel Zimbabwe said on Tuesday it has partnered with United Kingdom based online transfer firm, Mukuru.com (Mukuru) in a venture aimed at facilitating remittances from South Africa through its mobile money platform, Telecash.Zimbabwe, which has an estimated population of around 3 million living outside the country, the bulk of who are in South Africa, received $412 million in Diaspora remittances in the first half of the year.

Users of Mukuru were currently accessing remittances from South Africa through selected local banks and retails outlets. The move would also benefit those living in the rural areas who previously had to travel long distances to access their funds.

Besides money transfers, Mukuru also provides additional financial services such as a banking prepaid debit card and funeral cover. Telecel said receivers of funds sent through Mukuru can collect their funds at over 3 7000 Telecash outlets or through the 5 000 ZimSwitch points of sale and automated teller machines countrywide using the Telecash gold card. Telecel has moved over $17 million through Telecash since its launch in late January, with over 600 000 of its 2.3 million subscribers using the mobile money platform. – New Ziana.
