TELONE coach Herbert Maruwa and the Wi-Fi Boys faithful must have been left wondering where their strike-force has been all season.
This is because Maruwa’s men gave their relegation fight a massive boost when they registered their biggest win of the season with a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Bikita Minerals at Ascot yesterday.
Forwards, Washington Navaya and Nkosiyabo Masilela each got a brace while skipper, Trust Nyabinde and Zivanai Dubai got the other goals. Tinashe Ruzive got the consolation for the visitors.
This was only TelOne’s second win at home this season and it came in style lifting them out of the relegation zone.
The Gweru-based outfit moved a rung up on the log standings to 14th place on 29 points and their showing left Maruwa purring.
“I am happy with the result. I have been saying that goals will come and I am happy there is progress in the team.
“I have always said on a good day we can score many goals and today was the day. We need to make sure we maintain this and move away from the relegation zone.
Bikita coach Arnold Jani was disappointed and suggested there may be other forces behind his side’s loss.
“All I can say is we lost, a heavy defeat, but sometimes as coach, you may not know what is happening in your camp.
Mapeza not throwing in the towel yet.
At GreenFuel Arena in Chisumbanje, there was no outright winner as the hosts held former champions FC Platinum 1-1.
Despite the draw FC Platinum gaffer Norman Mapeza remains hopeful of a strong challenge in the final stretch of the championship chase.
“We are around nine points behind Simba Bhora with seven games to play, that’s about 21 points to play for, if four games were remaining we were going to throw in the towel but we are still in it and we will fight to the end.
“Coming back to this match, I think we were on top of the situation, and any other day we could have collected maximum points but we will take a point home.
“We have been travelling a lot but we continue playing our football and we need to focus on our games taking each game as it comes”, said Mapeza.
Bosso overcome Arenel
A beauty of a strike from Gillian Nyathi with the last kick of the game and a Lynoth Chikuhwa first-half goal were all Highlanders needed to end their four-game win-less run in the league following victory over Arenel at Barbourfields yesterday.
They could have won by an even bigger scoreline had they not been poor in front of goal, particularly in the first half.
Bosso broke the deadlock four minutes before the break, through striker Chikuhwa, who netted home his 11th goal of the season.
The build-up to the goal saw Never Rauzhi make a brilliant run on the right before setting up McKinnon Mushore inside the box.
Substitute Nyathi got Bosso’s second goal with a beautiful curler from a distance as it looked like there would be no other goal in the match. Ironically, his introduction by Kelvin Kaindu in the 84th minute had been met by jeers as he replaced Honest Mhlanga who had also come on as a substitute for Melikhaya Ncube in the 57th minute.
