Temporary replacements for health staffers sought

Government is looking for temporary replacements for health workers who recently tested positive for Covid-19 at Madzorere Clinic in Zvimba West constituency.

The temporary staff will facilitate the reopening of the clinic, which closed last week after five of the six staffers there tested positive.

The closure also sought to allow the task-force team on Covid-19 to conduct extensive disinfection exercise.

In a phone call interview, acting provincial medical director Dr Gift Masoja said the clinic was closed last week to arrest the spread of the disease but resumption of services was being hindered by the unavailability of staff and accommodation.

“We resolved to close down the health institution after staffers including a registered nurse, two student nurses and an environmental health technician tested positive for Covid-19.

“We hoped to resume services with one of the staffers who was on leave, but she is pregnant,” he said.

He said the Ministry of Health and Child Care was currently looking for other staffers from neighbouring clinics to capacitate the institution so that health services were availed to the villagers.

“However, another challenge is that of accommodation as the staffers are occupying the houses at the clinic.”
