TENAX boosted their chances of surviving relegation when they upstaged hosts Yadah in a Castle Lager Premiership match at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.
The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services team continued with their revival, thanks to a second half strike from their captain Panashe Mtasa.
Tenax coach Shadreck Mugurasave was happy to collect maximum points but was quick to point out that they needed to keep working hard in order to dodge relegation.
“It was a very tight game but we managed to come out with three points. As we go back to Mutare, we are going to start preparing for our next match against Black Rhinos,” said Mugurasave.
The Mutare side now has 28 points from 29 matches. They remained unmoved in 14th place but crucially reduced the gap between them and ZPC Kariba, who occupy the last position of safety on the log standings, to just one point. Tenax are experiencing a purple patch and have collected seven points in three consecutive games.
They beat Harare City last week with a similar scoreline. Before that they had managed a goalless draw against giants CAPS United.
Their captain Munashe scored the all-important goal in the 70th minute yesterday when he received a through pass from Takunda Mapara, and rounded the Yadah goalkeeper. Interestingly, Tenax humbled Yadah who were still on cloud nine after beating CAPS United last week at the same venue. Yadah dominated play in the first half but lacked the killer instinct.
As a result, the Miracle Boys stood no chance against a determined Tenax that made three changes in the second period. The visitors dominated the stanza creating a number of scoring chances.
