TENAX SNATCH EASTERN REGION TITLE

Sports Reporter

PRISONS side Tenax have made a quick return to the Premiership after snatching the Eastern Region Division One soccer title from under the noses of Bikita Minerals and FC Wangu Mazodze on Saturday.

Tenax, who were virtually out of reckoning three weeks ago and were in third place before kick-off, romped to a 6-1 victory over JM Busha while their main rivals could only draw.

Thus they gained four points on their title rivals in the final two matches!

In the penultimate round of matches, Bikita Minerals blew a chance to put one foot in the Premiership when they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Midway FC and they dropped an-other two points in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Grayham.

Had Bikita Minerals collected maximum points at home to Midway FC, they would have been crowned champions on Saturday with the draw at Grayham.

They dropped four points in their last two matches and lost the title by one point while FC Wangu Mazodze also dropped four points in their last two matches to finish two points off the winners after a 1-1 draw at home to Masvingo United in the penultimate round of action.

Following their 1-1 draw at Renco Mine on Saturday, former log leaders FC Wangu Mazodze conceded defeat and promised a better 2024 campaign.

“We try again next season, important lessons learnt,” said the club on its social media handle.
