Although he has not been able to fit into his father’s shoes, Leonard Dembo’s son Tendai says he is determined to make a mark like other music legends’ children and he believes live shows will take him to another level.
Tendai has been performing at various events and tomorrow he goes to Nice Day club in Southlea Park where he is set to grace a family fun day.
The young musician has been soldiering on in trying to keep his father’s Barura Express outfit alive although he went separate ways with his brother Morgan.
Morgan, who has often been criticised for indiscipline, has not been able to complement his brother in the task.
Tendai says he will do his best to ensure that people continue enjoying his father’s music at live shows.
“I think we are doing well. The bar that my father set is too high and will not be easy to reach but I will do my best to keep his music alive. We are also working hard to ensure that we popularise our music and we hope that we will make it to the cream of local music in the future. We will keep working hard until we get there,” said Tendai.
He has his own good songs but people enjoy Leonard’s songs at the shows.
Guests to the family fun day are likely to be taken down memory lane during the event that will be preceded by social games like pool, football and netball.
Organisers of the event said the weekend of fun will begin today a quiz show featuring schools from Harare South.
Nice Day partnered Steward bank, Ecocash, Lobels and Delta Beverages for the event.
The venue’s entertainment manager said the programme was designed to bring fun to the entertainment-starved area.
“As Nice Day we have been planning events that bring people from the area together to have fun. We have brought various musicians to the area and we have now expanded to social activities including primary school quiz so that we cater for all age groups.”
