ZIMBABWE’S number one tennis player Takanyi Garanganga will hold a two-day training workshop that starts at the Emakhandeni Tennis Club today and ends at Girls’ College tomorrow. Tennis non-profit foundation Serve4Africa is facilitating the coaching clinics. Serve4Africa’s Thabani Sithole said the United States-based Garanganga, who is also their ambassador, will join the country’s other top players in conducting the course for aspiring tennis players.
Some of the US-based players that will take part in the course include Mbonisi Ndimande and his brother Zibusiso.
“Our goal as Serve4Africa is to open opportunities for talented tennis players, who have the potential to become professionals. We look at improving the coaches and educating young players. What guys like Takanyi do is to interact and motivate the youngsters, share the challenges that they face and how they can overcome them. We hope Bulawayo will benefit from this programme,” said Sithole.
In December last year, Serve4Africa held a similar coaching clinic in Harare and one in Mutare at the beginning of 2015. The foundation also held another coaching clinic in Harare in July. Witness Jiyane, a Bulawayo tennis board member, said they expect about 100 participants at the Emakhandeni Tennis Club today.
“We will have registration at the Emakhandeni courts at 8AM, followed by an induction and then theoretical lessons for coaches. We will also have some exhibitions matches later on. We are targeting teachers from Emakhandeni and their pupils to register for Tuesday’s programme that will be held at Girls’ College,” said Jiyane.
