Tension eases as Bosso squad breaks training deadlock

HIGHLANDERS’ training session at White City B Arena on Tuesday morning unfolded with tension, uncertainty and eventual relief, as players who had boycotted training a day earlier finally agreed to resume preparations after prolonged discussions over unpaid salaries.

The squad assembled at the training ground around 10am, but it quickly became clear that all was not well. Instead of heading straight onto the field, the players gathered at the edge of the pitch, talking among themselves while the coaching staff waited patiently a short distance away.

Still owed several months’ wages, the players had on Monday warned that they could even fail to honour their Castle Lager Premiership match against Chicken Inn, scheduled for Wednesday at Barbourfields Stadium.

By 10:50am, the entire squad was present, yet no training had started. Conversations continued and body language suggested a group deeply divided between maintaining their stance and getting back to work.

Team manager Zenzo Moyo arrived shortly after 11am and joined the talks in an effort to ease the situation. Moments later, the players broke away from the technical team and moved about 20 metres aside to hold a private meeting of their own, heightening the sense that the standoff had reached a decisive moment.

For a while, White City remained still. No whistles, no warm ups, just quiet tension as Bosso’s preparations for a crucial midweek match hung in the balance.

However, players later resolved to resume training.
