In a shocking turn of events, Nobuhle Sibanda, a resident of Gomoza village, Lupane district in Matabeleland North province, is facing harassment and threats from her father, Benjamin Sibanda, following her involvement in a romantic relationship with her stepmother, Sukoluhle Moyo.

This revelation has ignited a wave of concern among relatives and the local community, who fear for the safety of both women.

A close relative, speaking on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that Sukoluhle Moyo was forced into marriage with Benjamin Sibanda at a young age due to family pressures. “She never wanted to marry him. It was a decision made by her family, and she has suffered ever since. Despite knowing Sukoluhle’s sexual orientation, Benjamin would not accept their relationship,” the relative stated.

Tragically, Sukoluhle and Benjamin had a son together, who died under mysterious circumstances. Sukoluhle privately confided to relatives that she suspected her son was sacrificed for ritual purposes, a claim that has raised eyebrows in the tight-knit community.

After the relationship between Sukoluhle and Nobuhle blossomed, Benjamin reportedly discovered their affair. “He was furious,” the relative shared. “With the mounting pressure, Sukoluhle has now gone missing. Benjamin is convinced Nobuhle knows where she is, and he has been beating her and threatening her with unspecified action.”

Benjamin Sibanda, who is also a local businessperson and former police officer, wields significant influence in the area, leaving many family members and neighbors fearful of the repercussions of reporting the situation to authorities.

“We are terrified of him. He has connections that make it difficult for anyone to stand against him. We fear for Nobuhle’s safety,” the relative added.

As the community grapples with these troubling events, calls for support and intervention are growing louder. Local activists have urged for a thorough investigation into the allegations, emphasizing the need for protection for both Nobuhle and Sukoluhle amidst the escalating violence.

The situation remains fluid, with many in Gomoza village hopeful for a resolution that ensures the safety and well-being of those involved. As concerns mount, the community continues to rally around Nobuhle, seeking justice and support in the face of adversity.
