Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, Emily Jesaya, has lauded the late local musician Terry Gee, highlighting that his talent and hard work exemplify the notion that disability is not synonymous with inability.

Terry Gee, also known as Tichaona Terrence Green, succumbed to a cardiac arrest at Arundel Hospital in Harare last week.

In a show of support, Deputy Minister Jesaya visited the late Terry Gee’s residence in Chitungwiza earlier this week to convey her condolences to the grieving family. She was accompanied by the Ministry’s Arts and Culture director, Dr Biggie Samwanda, Deputy Director Charity Manuhwa, and National Arts Council of Zimbabwe member Isaac Chitando.

In an interview following the visit, Deputy Minister Jesaya commended Terry Gee’s confidence and determination, citing his commitment to music as a testament to the belief that individuals with disabilities can overcome challenges and pursue their talents. She also assured that the government is actively working on inclusive strategies to enhance the livelihoods of artistes.

“I would like to applaud the great music that was put out by Terry Gee, which united the nation through addressing social issues. His commitment and hard work showed that disability is not inability, and through music, one can make a living. I implore other artistes to take inspiration from Terry Gee and follow their hearts in showcasing their work.

“Government is working on something to incorporate every artiste, including those living with disabilities, to improve their livelihoods,” said Deputy Minister Jesaya.
