BULAWAYO sprinter Thandazani Ndhlovu just two days after another milestone on the track, on Tuesday set a new national record in the 300m in Pretoria, South Africa.
On Sunday, Ndhlovu ran the second fastest 400m in the history of Zimbabwe athletics. He clocked 44.71 seconds in the lap event and on Tuesday timed 32.06 in the 300m to underline his growing reputation as one of the country’s top sprinters.
He was fifth in a very competitive race won by Lythe Pillay in 31.58 seconds with another South African Garden Isaacs second in 31.77 and Zakithi Nene third in 31.85 to edge Adrian Swardt in a photo finish.
Ashley Miller broke the 300m women’s national record at the Pilditch Stadium when she ran 36.48 seconds.
Ndhlovu is part of the Zimbabwe team that set a new national record in the 4x400m relay and has qualified for the weekend World Relays in Gaborone, Botswana.
