DURBAN. – AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane is demanding more from his charges after they opened their Betway Premiership campaign with a 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch on Saturday.
A second-half penalty from last season’s top scorer, Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, proved to be the decisive blow in a tightly contested affair.
Despite the winning start to the season, Zwane was far from satisfied with his side’s lack of finishing in the opposition final third.
“We had chances, I don’t think the 1-0 scoreline is a true reflection (of the game) it could’ve been more,” Zwane lamented after the match.
“We were just not clinical, at some point, we thought the game was going to be easy for us. We need to do better when it comes to that, and I think we can improve on that one.”
Zwane admitted he would have felt deeply let down had his side let the lead slip, emphasising that while the three points are welcome, his team must sharpen their killer instinct in the final third moving forward.
The encounter began at a frantic pace, with both sides trading blows in the opening 20 minutes as they fought for control of the midfield.
The game’s defining moment was when the visitors were awarded a penalty.
Ngwenya stepped up, who coolly converted the spotkick give Usuthu the lead.
