THANDO Ngwenya made it three goals in two games after he scored a brace for Amazulu in the MTN8 match against Sekhukhune at Chartsworth yesterday.
The 23-year-old Zimbabwe striker was the hero for Usuthu when his penalty game them a 1-0 win in their first league game of the season last week.
He came into that game on the back of a long-term injury and netted the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 59th minute at Parow Park.Ngwenya finished the 2025/26 campaign as AmaZulu’s top scorer, hitting eight goals in 19 appearances across all competitions, despite picking up a foot injury in March that ruled him out for the remainder of the season.He said the goal in the league brought the confidence that he needed.
“It brought confidence because coming from injury it’s not easy,” Ngwenya told IOL last week.
“Your confidence goes down. Now I’m just hoping for the best.”
Reflecting on the injury that kept him sidelined, the former FC Platinum striker explained:
“It was draining for my fitness to come back, but now I’m okay. I’m still trying to find myself again. I think I will do my best.
“The PSL is faster than the league I was playing in before, so I’m still trying to adapt.”
Yesterday, in the MTN8, he showed he is slowly regaining that confidence.
His opened the scoring against Sekhukhune and then scored again just after the break.
He could have grabbed a hat-trick but missed a good opportunity, just moments before grabbing his first goal.
He was then pulled out in the 80th minute with the score at 3-3 before the match spilled into extra-time. — Sports Reporter/SuperSport
