THE Rainbow Towers — a five-star hotel located in the heart of the capital city, beside Robert Mugabe Square — boasts a restaurant, shops and extensive conference facilities that host numerous high-profile events. a
Recently, I noticed a significant effort to revamp the hotel’s garden, inspiring today’s topic: how to revitalise your own outdoor space.
Revamping your garden involves more than just a quick trim.
It is about transforming overgrown areas, enriching soil quality, introducing vibrant new plants and refreshing hardscape elements like patios and pathways.

The process begins with careful planning and preparation.
First, assess your garden’s size and consider if a design change — perhaps from a formal to an informal layout — is desired.
Envision new features such as a pergola, arch or a tranquil water feature to enhance the ambiance.
Establish a realistic budget for your proposed changes and ensure you have adequate resources.

Determine a timeline for the project, accounting for potential inconveniences along the way.
Once planning is complete, it is time to prepare the soil.
Begin by clearing debris and adding nutrients with well-rotted manure, improving soil structure. If the soil is compacted, incorporate organic matter to loosen it.
Give patios and pathways a fresh look with a thorough cleaning.

Consider using artificial turf as a low-maintenance alternative to a traditional lawn.
The most crucial step is plant selection.
Choose species that offer a burst of colour, such as vibrant annuals or plants that bloom year-round.
Enhance your garden’s evening appeal by adding solar lighting.

Introduce soft features like a pond, fountain or bird bath to create a serene atmosphere.
Finally, add the finishing touches.
Apply soil mulch to suppress weeds and conserve moisture.
Incorporate birdhouses or insect hotels to attract wildlife.
Provide comfortable seating areas for visitors to enjoy your revitalised space. Revamp your garden to create a beautiful and functional oasis!
