THE Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (BUZ) is finalising dates for the first-ever National Youth Camp to be held in Harare next month.
According to Buz president Joe Mujuru, the camp is meant to promote the development of basketball at grassroots level.
“This is the first event of this kind. We will have an eight-day camp with the first four days focusing on the training of technical officials and coaches by NBA and FIBA-certified coaches. The idea is to leave a legacy of technical richness in the country. The next four days will see 40 players under the age of 15 go on a four-day training programme. In basketball people always complain that the country lacks shooters just like they complain about the lack of strikers in football. The question is what are we doing about that? As Buz we have come up with this camp to try and encourage the training of these skills from a young age,” said Mujuru.
Mujuru says the Youth Camp compliments the “Her World, Her Rules” (HWHR) campaign which is FIBA’s most recognized initiative in women’s basketball.
As part of FIBA’s commitment to further develop the game of basketball for women and girls, FIBA has made Women in Basketball a key focus of their strategic priorities.
