Preparations for the premiere of a film titled “The Bicycle Thief” are at an advanced stage.
The film’s marketing manager Kudakwashe Takundwa said they will launch the production next month.
“Recently we announced that it will premiere in Harare and Bulawayo only but we will take it to all the cities in Zimbabwe and some countries abroad,” he said.
The film was directed by United States-based filmmaker Sanelle Sibanda and will be screened at various venues in the country.

In Harare the film will be first shown at the Book Café, Arcadia Community Centre and at Prince Edward School before it goes to Bulawayo, Victoria Falls and other parts of the country.

Takundwa said they were working on screening the film in schools surrounding the city.
“It is also a good story for these youngsters who are going to school as it gives meaningful messages,” he said.

They are also targeting to film it at international festivals.
The story is about young Zola, an African who defies the usual route of academic achievement to reach his dreams.

“In this world freedom comes in many ways and in this story Zola a young talented dancer in a remote village in Africa is devastated when his father leaves to work in South African mines

“The situation gets worse when his mother dies of an AIDS related disease and Zola is left to live with his uncle who is a poor man. Zola auditions for a dance competition and all he needs to change his life is a miracle,” he said.

He said they have tried to bring new innovation through a short story that is pregnant with social facts.
“It is a story that gives the nation the truth about life and remember it was written by someone who is from the same society and his understanding of these matters is high,” Takundwa said.
