The circus has left town

The Sharp Shooter Vukani Madoda
The temptation to talk about the delusional Japanese researcher Ken Yamamoto was very high for this week’s piece. Yamamoto (yawn fire as the Shona would directly translate) was on fire last week, this time not as an academic or a columnist but as a…. you guessed right, as a prophet. Yamamoto was on fire as a prophet of doom predicting five flimsy reasons why Cde Mugabe will not be President of Zimbabwe by December 2017.

His lengthy article was titled “The rise and fall (of Robert Mugabe)”.

First things first Yamamoto, President Mugabe has not fallen and — as the good professor would say — should he face a fall, he breaks it.

Yamamoto gives five fragile reasons for the demise of President Mugabe: age, the economy, succession, the young generation and rogue elements who are so-called war veterans.

What Yamamoto fails to realise is that dead or alive, the spirit of Robert Mugabe will live on.

His influences will live on and his legacy will never die.

He has already freed the black man from mental slavery and transformed the black man’s thinking to be that of a progressive and self-sufficient race.

That legacy will never fall; it can only continue to rise, Yamamoto.

Obviously, the legacy has come at a price. The price we pay is an attack on our economy.

But in terms of succession every black man is going to succeed Cde Mugabe, and the younger generation which Yamamoto thinks is disillusioned will be the greatest beneficiaries of succeeding Cde Mugabe as they realise the importance of economic and mental emancipation.

As for the rogue war veterans, these are the Pharisees that crucified Jesus but couldn’t kill Christianity.

That said, Yamamoto should stick to desk research and leave prophecy to prophets.

There have been many prophets who have “prophesied” Cde Mugabe’s demise only to eat humble pie.

Similar embarrassment awaits Yamamoto.

Anyway, it is said actions speak louder than words. Which is why no one cares about Yamamoto’s noise.

More important are the actions of pastor-turned-opposition clown Evan Mawarire.

In “House of Hunger” style, Evan packed his bags and left.

First he left for South Africa and then he invited his family over. Then last week he packed his bags again and left for the American dream.

Job done. Mission accomplished. Money in the bank. ThisFlag circus is over.

The leader who used to bray, bark, moo and bellow that “hatichatya” has achieved what he wanted — a life of luxury for himself as those children who he did not budget school fees for.

The blind followers have been left behind.

Evan sold them a dummy for his personal gain.

Even Harare mayor Ben Manyenyeni can only spit out the name of the betrayer whose platitudes they sang not too long ago.

One prominent lawyer has asked: “Was (Evan) lying when he said he wasn’t afraid? Is he afraid now? Is he ever coming back? Is he not taking our intelligence for granted…? Has he had a change of heart?”

Now our flag can regain the respect it had lost to those who thought it was an activists’ rag and not a national symbol.

Our flag is back.

Now we can refocus on our goals because #OurFlag is not just #thisflag. It is not a common noun, it’s a proper noun, it’s our flag, the Zimbabwe flag.

The circus has packed its tent and left town.

Dubulaizitha!
