The happiness of the New Year

Dr Nick Ohizu-The Voice of God

The new year is finally here.

Those of us that made it are glad we did. We received many wishes of happiness from friends and family. However, happiness in the new year is not given.

Corresponding actions must be taken for us to experience happiness in our individual lives.

There is no difference between yesterday and today, neither is there difference between last year and this year.

What makes a year or a day different from another are the actions we take. If one wakes up today and stay in bed the whole day and then repeats the same the next day, there will be no difference between the two days except the name we call them.

The difference we are going to experience in the new year is the one we make. The difference between this year and last year will be found in the actions we take. The actions are the products of our decisions.

Therefore, happiness is determined by decisions.

Happiness starts from the family. A person can only live as long as their family permit.

Your family are the only people with the decision, responsibility and proximity to give you the peace, love and care that will generate happiness and longevity of life.

The happiness of the wife is determined by the actions of the husband, and vice versa. The happiness of the parents is determined by the actions of the children and vice versa.

From our family comes the actions that determine our happiness, therefore seek happiness at home.

Truly love your family. Not only when things are going well, but even in hard times.

Family is not the only source of our happiness. Our happiness also emanates from our relationship with others.

There are so many things we experience daily that will either make or break our happiness this year.

So many of them happen outside our areas of control thereby making them impossible to avoid.

Some of the points below are very important steps you need to take to enhance your happiness this year.

1. Be careful so you do not hate a lovely person, because of a dirty rumour you heard about them which was created out of jealousy and envy.

God sends lovely people in our lives to create moments and seasons of happiness, however, some enemies of progress always find ways to separate us from them. This year, do your due diligence before you walk away from a good person. Sometimes true love is revealed through our ability to forgive.

2. Try to appreciate those who gossip about you. It is not easy for someone to leave their problems and be talking about your own.

Even though gossip can separate close friends, overcoming the damages of gossip is a matter of perspective. If the gossip is already spread, there is nothing you can do to change it.

Appreciate the gossipers, at least they consider you important enough to talk about you. If someone gossips about you, the only people you owe an explanation about that gossip are the people that truly matter in your life.

Give them the true version of events and leave the rest to time.

3. Be careful of betrayers. Wherever there is progress, satan plants betrayers. King David was betrayed by his own son Absalom, so do not expect much from people who are not even related to you. Betrayal is not a response to your actions but a revelation of the nature of the betrayer.

Forgive betrayers but be careful with them, because next time they may not spare your life.

4. Know your limits. In as much as we derive so much joy from giving. We should never go beyond our capacities in the quest to help people.

A lot of people get emotionally manipulated into generosity beyond their capacity. At the end of it all, the people we help the most end up becoming the most ungrateful.

There is no need to go beyond your limits to appease people. Even if you kill yourself for some people, they will still complain that you did not die in a proper way. Do your best and leave the rest, you cannot satisfy everyone.

5. If you are always worried about what others are saying about you, you will never be happy.

Wise people understand that opinion is free that is why a lot of people have it. The power of that knowledge will help you narrow down your focus on what really matters.

Choosing happiness this year requires you to ignore opinions and set your mind on your vision and pursue it to fulfilment. Everyone will not have a good opinion about you, you will not be liked by everyone.

Appreciate the ones that like you and move on with your life. Do not lose your peace over those who hate you. Those who convinced people to hate you cannot convince God to hate you.

6. When your blessings are getting closer, your attacks become greater. Do not look at the storm, God is the controller of all things he created, and he is by your side, you are a victor. Stay connected to God always. Have confidence in God, for with God all things are possible.
