The journey begins

FORM 1AMiss Ash
Finally, the time you have been waiting for is almost here! You have probably been tossing and turning in your blankets all week and wondering if all the stories you have heard about high school are true. Don’t worry it’s not as scary as they have made it sound. They have probably told you that the prefects in high school are much tougher and meaner, to some extent it is true, but it is no biggie. All you have to do is stay on the right side of the rules.

You may have been head prefect at primary, but that does not carry over into high school, respect the new leadership and be humble.

The easiest way to survive in this new jungle is to find a friend. You will not make it on your own. Find a friend from your primary school if you have former classmates around, or take a leap and make new friends.

It will be easier for you to figure your way together, guys, two heads are better than one.

Talking about learning, you are going to be introduced to something new. It is no longer just going to be Maths, English, Content and Shona or Ndebele.

Buckle up and get ready for more mind-blowing, exciting and challenging subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Technical Graphics, Biology and a whole lot more. It may be a little difficult and overwhelming, but you will get used.

You will need a study plan. The subjects are now a little more complicated and it is important to give each subject enough attention. If you will be in boarding school, make use of the study time.

If you are going to boarding school and you were never in boarding all along then this will be a different experience. You may miss home the first days, but once you make friends you will not even feel the difference. It will just become a second home.

In boarding school you need to be wise about where you keep your belongings and your “tuck”. Make sure you always keep it safe and locked up and that all your belongings are clearly labelled and do not be reckless or careless with them.

Remember to be smart always. Try your best to find out all the rules like what time you have to be in the dorm so that you avoid punishment.

Not to scare you, but there have been too many reports of bullying in high school. Teens, if you are bullied in any way DO NOT HESITATE TO REPORT.

I say this in caps because too many of you get bullied and you are told that reporting the bully isn’t cool. But do not be fooled, high school should be an experience, do not allow anyone to make it a nightmare for you. Go and report that bully to a prefect or your teacher.

I am sure your uniform is ready and your hair is smartly done. This is the first step into a beautiful destiny and you will most certainly enjoy it.

Here is the coolest thing about it, Form 1 now means you are a teen and you get to feature in Cool Lifestyle! Hip hip hooray to that! We can’t wait to hear your feedback on how the first day of school was.
