Looking at the unseen
GENESIS 22:10-14 KJV
And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
[11] And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
[12] And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
[13] And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
[14] And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah–jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
Abraham had travelled for three days from where the people stayed.
He travelled to where there was no inhabitant; to a mountain God would show him.
If he travelled for example, 40km a day, it means he was a 120km away from where people stayed and where domestic animals could ordinarily be found.
It was when he was climbing the mountain with his son Isaac, whom God had instructed Abraham to sacrifice, that Isaac asked where the lamb for a burnt offering was.
Abraham had blurted those notable words that God would Himself provide a lamb for a burnt offering.
Abraham believed that if he burnt Isaac, God would raise him again from the dead, and he and his son would go down the mountain where they had left the two servants.
The faith of Abraham believed that Isaac, though he would be burnt to a cinder or ashes, would rise from the ashes.
That faith believed in a resurrection.
Out of nothing, Isaac was going to come to life just as he had come out of a dead womb of Sarah his mother.
Abraham believed in a God that provides.
God would provide the life of Isaac; Isaac would come back again to life.
Just as he was about to kill his son, the word of the Lord came to him for him to withhold his hand from slaying Isaac.
He was told to look to the thicket.
There he saw a ram, caught by its horns in a bush.
Abraham and Isaac had obviously rummaged the area looking for stones to erect an altar.
They would have searched around the area for more firewood.
They had found no ram.
The place was so far away from civilisation.
A ram, a domestic animal, could not ordinarily be where no people stay.
There were jackals and other animals of prey on the mountain.
There was obviously no water on the mountain.
But a ram was found in those circumstances.
Where did the ram come from?
It does not matter what the circumstances are.
God is still a creator.
When he saw the ram.
Abraham called the place Jehovah-jireh, meaning “the Lord shall provide.”
The ram that was not there at one moment appeared in another moment.
The ram that Abrham had not seen in his earlier rummaging of the place, was suddenly created.
It was caught by its horns and at Abraham’s disposal.
God can create for you the thing you had not seen in all your working life.
You were working all your adult years and got nothing.
At the end of your search of many years, God will provide the thing.
That thing will be yours so much so that it will be caught by its horns.
Maybe it is an item that you were looking for all these years.
One day someone will refuse to sell it to buyers who offer a higher price and decide to sell you the thing at a negligible price and on your own terms.
You were looking for a wife.
A girl you have a crush on will make advances to you.
They will call you to an interview for a job you did not apply for.
In this economy, which is like a wilderness on top of a mountain where Abraham saw a ram, you shall obtain that which you desired to have for a lifetime.
Where there are jackals that can eat your ram, God will create and preserve it for you.
Nothing will eat what God intends for you.
What God has allotted for you cannot run away from you.
It is caught by its horns.
It is yours.
Right there where it is impossible to attain your need, you will find your ram.
God will put it there.
God will provide.
