TAKUNDA Chitepo says his mission is to promote the country’s rich culture at the Mister Tourism Africa competition in Nigeria.
Chitepo, who is the current Mister Tourism Africa Zimbabwe, will grace Miss Tourism Africa next month.
In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Chitepo said he sees this competition as an opportunity to boost tourism, inspire young people to take pride in their heritage and build cultural connections across Africa.
“My participation in the competition will shine a spotlight on Zimbabwe as a top African destination, attracting more interest in our culture, wildlife, and natural wonders like Victoria Falls and Hwange National Park.
“The message I want to convey is that Zimbabwe is a land of beauty, resilience, and warm-hearted people – a country ready to welcome the world.”
To prepare for the competition, Chitepo has been researching Nigerian culture, grooming, fitness training, and practicing public speaking to confidently represent Zimbabwe.
“Nigeria has a rich and diverse culture with over 250 ethnic groups, vibrant traditions, music, fashion, and a strong sense of community. It’s known for Nollywood, Afrobeat, and colorful festivals like the Eyo and Osun-Osogbo. Compared to Zimbabwe, Nigeria’s culture is more fast-paced and heavily urbanised, with larger population centres and stronger global media influence.
“While both countries value tradition and hospitality, the scale and variety of cultures in Nigeria offer a different, more dynamic experience.”
Chitepo is currently a part three student at Lupane State University, pursuing a degree in Peace and Security.
“I expect a vibrant event that celebrates Africa’s diversity, offers networking opportunities and allows me to showcase Zimbabwe on the international stage.
“Zimbabwe’s unique selling points include iconic sites like Victoria Falls, Great Zimbabwe ruins, Hwange National Park, and the Eastern Highlands, along with our rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality.”
