THE National Railways of Zimbabwe has workshops that can undertake any type of job big or small.

The organisation also has highly skilled and competent engineers, technicians and artisans capable of delivering on complex tasks.

While the workshops are there to primarily service NRZ equipment, including complete overhaul of massive locomotives, there is excess capacity which is now being made available to local companies and individuals wishing to make use of NRZ expertise in the engineering field.

The National Railways of Zimbabwe has opened up its massive workshop facilities in Bulawayo to companies which require instant and custom made services.

In line with the NRZ revival strategy, the Engineering Workshops have been rebranded to Inter-Rail-Tech.

The workshops are among the largest integrated engineering workshops in Zimbabwe and are geared to provide a one stop solution to mining and engineering companies.

Inter-Rail-Tech is mainly into general Mechanical, Electrical and Structural Engineering, offering designing, fabrication, manufacturing, reconditioning, repairs, rewinding, servicing and consultancy as well as Boiler and Wire Rope maintenance inspections.

Inter-Rail-Tech has qualified engineering staff comprising engineers, technicians and artisans from the three NRZ divisions namely; mechanical, electrical and structural.

Inter-Rail-Tech is targeting mining, production, manufacturing and agricultural sectors as well as individuals, as it believes no job is too small.

The decision to open up NRZ workshops came on the backdrop of the workshops not operating at their designated and expected capacity, and accommodating outside jobs will unlock value and increase capacity utilisation of the workshops.

There is also a gap in the market for services offered by Inter-Rail-Tech as a number of companies which used to offer these services mostly in Bulawayo and the Midlands have closed down. As a result, NRZ workshops have been receiving inquiries from industry across the board who are keen to make use of their services thus making the NRZ realise there was a huge demand for its workshop services.

Inter-Rail-Tech boasts of a wide range of industrial machinery and equipment including CNC-Computerised lathe machine; balancing machine for balancing rotors, turbines and armatures; Pressing machines which can press up to 150 Tonnes; a foundry; jack hammers for civil works; a Vacuum Pressure Impregnation Plant; mobile cranes and bulldozer.

Inter-Rail-Tech offers a one stop shop where a complete quality product is deliverable and market-flexible through barter deals.

The Inter-Rail-Tech project seeks to adopt Total Quality Management and is working towards ISO Certification. Inter-Rail-Tech, engineering drive for success.
