The odour of fear

There comes a point in life where the strength that once carried you is no longer enough.

You notice it when the bills keep piling up and your income no longer stretches the way it used to, when your marriage becomes emotionally exhausting and the conversations that once came easily now feel heavy. You experience it when work drains you mentally, emotionally, and spiritually until even waking up feels like another battle.

And in those moments, many of us make one mistake: we keep trying to fight bigger battles with the same old strength.

Some Seasons Demand More Than Survival

Life has a way of introducing challenges that expose the limits of our usual coping mechanisms. The routines that worked before suddenly stop working, the emotional strength you once depended on feels weak and the motivation that used to push you forward begins to fade.

This is where many people become frustrated. Here is why;

Some battles are not designed to be overcome through ordinary strength. Some seasons require a different version of you. A wiser you.

A calmer you. A spiritually stronger you. A more emotionally disciplined you. Growth often begins where your old strength reaches its limit.

Stop Fighting Elevated Battles With Exhausted Energy

One of the greatest mistakes people make is trying to overcome life’s pressure while remaining mentally, emotionally, and spiritually depleted.

Truth is, you cannot pour from an empty cup.

You cannot continue carrying financial pressure while neglecting your mental wellbeing. You cannot heal a strained marriage while operating from constant frustration and emotional fatigue. You cannot perform effectively at work while silently collapsing inside. At some point, survival mode stops being sustainable. That is why overcoming is not just about enduring pressure. It is about renewing strength.

Not borrowed strength. Not temporary motivation. Not pretending to be okay. Real renewed strength. The kind that changes your perspective, sharpens your thinking and stabilizes your emotions even when circumstances remain uncertain.

Because sometimes the breakthrough does not begin when your situation changes. Sometimes it begins when you change.

Rise Wiser, Not Just Harder

When finances become difficult, many people panic and overwork themselves into burnout. But pressure is not always asking you to work harder. Sometimes it is asking you to become wiser; with your decisions, habits and priorities.

When marriage becomes difficult, many people either shut down emotionally or fight endlessly trying to prove a point. But healthy relationships require emotional maturity, patience, and intentional love.

When work becomes overwhelming, do not allow pressure to convince you that you are incapable. Sometimes life is stretching your capacity because you are capable of carrying more than you realised. Expand your resilience, mindset and emotional endurance.  Do not allow temporary exhaustion to define your permanent identity. Remember, the strongest people are not those who never get tired. They are those who learn how to renew themselves.

Reflection of the Week

Are you trying to fight today’s battles with yesterday’s strength?

Maybe the exhaustion you feel is not weakness. Maybe it is a signal that your life requires a deeper level of growth, wisdom, resilience, and inner renewal.

Challenge of the Week

Identify one area of your life where you have been operating from exhaustion instead of renewal. This week, stop reacting emotionally and start rebuilding intentionally. Rest where necessary. Seek wisdom where necessary. Strengthen your mind, your spirit, and your perspective. Choose renewal over survival.

Affirmations

Repeat these as often as you possibly can:

I refuse to be defeated by pressure.

I am rising beyond my ordinary strength.

I have the wisdom to navigate difficult seasons.

Do not settle for barely surviving life’s pressures. This is your season to rise higher mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and personally. Upgrade your thinking. Upgrade your resilience. Upgrade your spirit. You were never created to remain trapped beneath pressure. You were created to overcome it.

And overcoming begins the moment you decide:

“I will not face this season with ordinary strength. I will rise with renewed power.”
