The power of music

of “Crosby, Stills and Nash”.
The late Jimi Hendricks, still a guitar idol for many aspiring musicians once stated: “I can explain everything better through music. You hypnotise people to where they go right back to their natural state and when you get the people at their weakest point, you can preach into their subconscious what we want to say.”
Jim Morrison of the Doors, commenting on his stage performances stated: “I’m god up there! I do what I want. I’m interested in anything about revolution, disorder, chaos, sex and especially activity that has no meaning.”
Like it or not music impacts our decisions and shapes our thought patterns. It is a platform that enables us to express our feelings and communicate specific values at different times of our lives.
Today a large proportion of people from as early as 10- year-olds to the late 30s live for music, it is their passion.
When they are in school, work or with family, they are longing to plug themselves back into their music world.
While we all enjoy music it is very important to select good quality music that promotes and inspires you to be a better person for yourself and the community.
I know for a fact that life is about choices but believe it or not, whatever choice you make today will affect the next generation.
Many at times we look at the western world and admire their nations, but when you look at their social, moral emotional fibre you notice that their lifestyles leave a lot to be desired.
Popular music appeals to almost everyone because of its catchy melody and strong rhythm.
This usually makes it difficult to resist musical influence as we quickly identify with the sound. It is advisable not to get caught up in the musical gymnastics but to observe the message in a song.
Then make an informed decision on whether you will buy the music for your listening pleasure.
The more you listen to the music the more you are influenced. Not all musicians sing for business, some have become agents used to derail humanity from archiving wholesome lifestyles to living in perpetual confusion.
Music in its deep sense or nature is a spiritual energy that can be used to change the atmosphere and influence one to believe anything.
At times you need to look at music as words coated with sweet melodies and rhythms.
If Graham Nash’s vision was to change the young peoples value system, the question to ask is what is the motivation and mission of some of our local artistes?
What do they want to achieve and what are the implications of their choice of messages to our moral, social, emotional, spiritual, material values?
