The power of the secret place

GREETINGS, beloved nation, in the precious name of Jesus Christ.

Psalms 91:1 declares, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

Those who dwell in the secret place become prime candidates for the manifestation of God’s power and glory.

What is the Secret Place?

The secret place is a divine dwelling — an area of God’s presence, where one takes permanent residence, not just an occasional visit. To “dwell” means to make it your home. It is a place of intimacy with God, where He reveals Himself and His plans.

The Bible encourages us to seek God with all our hearts, promising that we will find Him. Remember, God is not found on the surface, He is revealed in depth through persistent seeking and intimacy.

The secret place also serves as your altar — a sacred space of dedication, communion and worship. It’s where the visible and invisible meet, a place of sacrifice. Moreover, it is a realm of angelic activity, where divine traffic occurs. Every believer, who desires to succeed in life must cultivate a secret place with God.

Five key insights about the secret place

1. It is a place of knowing God
You cannot truly know God outside the secret place where you regularly meet with Him. Knowing God begins with an encounter — a surrender of your life. In His secret place, God unveils His character and reveals truths about the past and present. Revelation, meaning “to unveil,” occurs here.

The Apostle Paul expressed a hunger to know God intimately (Philippians 3:10). Similarly, in Psalms 103:7, we see, Moses knew God’s ways because of his consistent communion, whereas others only knew His acts. Many seek God’s hand — His provision — rather than His face, His glory. To know His ways, to grow in grace and intimacy, you must spend time worshipping, praying and studying His Word in the secret place.

2. It is a place of transfiguration

In Exodus 34:29-31, Moses’ face was transfigured after spending time with God. Only those who genuinely engage with God in the secret place experience such transformation. In Luke 9:28-31, Jesus took three disciples to a prayer retreat on the mountain, where His face was transfigured, and the heavens opened. Duration and sincerity in the secret place lead to divine transformation.

3. It is a place of strict confidentiality

The secret place is where divine secrets are revealed — where you share your innermost thoughts and struggles with God alone.

Genesis 32 recounts Jacob wrestling with the angel of God, where he openly admitted his true identity.
Many are burdened with hidden issues — things they cannot share with others but can confide in God in the secret place.

Psalms 139 affirms that God knows our thoughts from afar. Isaiah 6:1-6 shows the prophet Isaiah acknowledging his unclean lips before God — a moment of honesty and vulnerability. In the secret place, God confides in those who seek Him sincerely. It’s a space for divine direction and revelation.

4. It is a place of divine conception

The secret place is where divine seeds are sown — where prayer and worship merge as spiritual intercourse with God. When your spirit fuses with His, divine purposes are conceived. Just as a womb conceives life, the secret place is where spiritual pregnancies occur — plans, visions and purposes of God are conceived and birthed.
The church itself is likened to God’s womb on earth, giving birth to divine plans. Conception in the spirit requires a sacred space of intimacy, where divine seeds are planted and brought to life.

5. It is a place of protection

God’s promise to those who dwell in the secret place is divine protection. Psalms 31:20 declares, “Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man.” When you dwell in God’s presence, you are shielded from calamities and attacks.
Psalms 42:1-2 illustrates this protection vividly — just as a deer pants for water to escape pursuit, believers in the secret place can hide from enemies and spiritual attacks.

6.The power and authority of the secret place

The secret place is a realm of power, authority and dominion. Your spiritual strength correlates directly with the strength of your altar. Weak altars produce weak declarations, while strong altars lead to powerful proclamations.

For instance, Elijah’s declaration of drought in 1 Kings 17 was made from a strong altar — an altar built on faith and divine authority. Conversely, declarations from weaker altars lack impact.

The key question for each of us is: How strong is your altar?

The secret place is where believers gain power, authority and divine insight. It’s a sacred space for transformation, protection, conception and divine intimacy. Cultivating a strong altar and consistently dwelling there will position you for supernatural results in your life and ministry.
