The return of Scorpion Kings…Kabza, Maphorisa seek redemption for Carnival gaffe

THE last time they appeared on a poster this side of the Limpopo they emerged as the ultimate villains.
Billed as the highlight of a Victoria Falls Carnival that was trialing out new dates for the first time, the famous duo left carnival attendees from all over the southern tip of the continent seething with anger as they were a no-show.

While their protégé, Sha Sha, has been eager to make amends for that series of performances that never was, fans and organisers alike have been irked by the radio silence from the prolific duo that has been headlining gigs over the world.
For some, their failure to attend the gig, a three-party fest that is regarded as the highlight of the country’s showbiz calendar, could rightfully be seen as disrespect of the country itself.

However, it seems as if the two kings are now ready to make amends, albeit, four months later.
The pair of Kabza and Maphorisa are set to headline a gig on 18 September at the Boundary, in what would be their first appearance in the country since the carnival fiasco.

Just as they did in January, when they performed in front of a bumper crowd in what was a blockbuster gig, the two have been brought to Bulawayo by local events company Fife Street Events working in conjunction with 3D Events Management.

In an interview with Sunday Life, Junior Mbanje of Fife Street Events said the Scorpion Kings were eager to once again set Bulawayo alight, after their blazing performance in January.

“This is the second time this year that we are bringing the Scorpion Kings and like what we saw in January they will once again show that they are Amapiano royalty. Like in January, we expect a five-star performance from the pair and we want fans to be rest assured that they will get value for their money. It is simply a gig that they cannot afford to miss and we encourage them to come in their numbers again,” he said.
